Directions to the South Seaside Park area for the John Lyons Race.
Site of the starting line of the race is “The Basketball Court at 211 24th Avenue, South Seaside Park.”

Head South on Garden State Parkway to Exit 82.
Take Exit 82 – HEADING EAST on Route #37 toward Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Island Beach State Park.

Travel EAST on Route #37 to the Thomas A Mathis Bridge which connects you to the Barrier Island. Once you cross the bridge, stay in the Right lane and now, follow signs for Seaside Park, Island Beach State Park.

Wind around the “S” Curve, always staying towards your right so that you will proceed on Central Avenue (Route #35) heading SOUTH.

DO NOT SPEED ON THIS ROAD – SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MILES AND THE POLICE ENFORCE IT DURING TOURIST SEASON!

Stay on Central Avenue for approx 2.5 miles. Follow the road around the Seaside Park Police Department, still staying on Central Avenue South. Pass Betty and Nick’s Bait & Tackle on the right. When the road looks like it’s going to come together into two lanes again (right past Yorkshire Landing Condos), get in the right hand lane.
Turn RIGHT at 14th Avenue. You are now in South Seaside Park.

Go to first intersection (By the Recycling Center) and turn left on to BARNEGAT AVENUE.

The race will begin on the intersection of 24th and Barnegat Avenue. (FYI 24th Avenue is the LAST STREET in this town before you reach Island Beach State Park.) You can park your car any where on Barnegat Avenue close to the beginning of the race if you want to have your car near the starting line.

At the end of the race, there will be some refreshments provided by the Berkeley Fish Market – which is on the corner of 24th Avenue and Central Avenue. Afterwards, you are welcome to enjoy the beach. Bring a Beach Chair! No beach badges are required yet, since it is pre-season.Thank you all for coming out to support this cause… honoring the life of a local young man who lost his life defending our freedom. This is a small race, run by the friends of John Lyons and I know that they appreciate your participation and support! Thank you!
